Let’s pretend you need to come up with a new performance appraisal measure for dining hall food servers at a local college.

(a) Think of a critical incident that might occur at a dining hall and write me a one-item behaviorally anchored rating scale that includes the critical incident and an example of poor, mediocre, and good performance.

(b) Write a plan for how you would come up with and validate this measure if you were actually doing it out in the real world.

Consider how and from whom you would collect the critical incidents; how you would determine the behavioral anchors for poor, mediocre, and good performance; and how you would provide evidence that the scale validly measures performance.
