Guys, I have a problem with Romeo and Juliet here. I need to write an essay discussing the theme of rivalry between the two families and how this theme is still relevant in modern society. I am sure everyone is familiar with that story, but I am just having a hard time putting all that stuff together. I cannot even read that thing, the language there is just so poetic and fancy, I cannot wrap my head around it. I’ve even tried to read examples of papers written by other people here. With all due respect to William Shakespeare, I just don’t get it.
So, as I see it, there are these two Italian families in Verona and they don’t really like each other. I have no idea what’s the quarrel is about, but they seem to take that seriously. So, one day, this boy Romeo falls in love with that hot babe Juliet, but they can’t be together because their families are like blood sworn enemies. But hey! They lived like a thousand years ago, and we don’t do that anymore. We don’t kill each other on the streets just because my grandfather spilled beer on your grandfather’s new trousers and they had a drunk fight in the pub back in the 60s. See, that’s what I am talking about. We are long past those blood feuds and I cannot imagine the same story happening in 2020. So, if you have any idea on how this story of a blood feud between two families in Italy is relevant to our society right now, I am all ears.
What also troubles me is the thesis statement. As you might have guessed by now, I am really bad at analyzing literary works. That is why I need some help here. I cannot figure why would a story about a family grudge, where people just casually stab each other on the streets, be relevant to modern society. I can see how the love story is always relevant – people will fall in love, regardless of which century they live in, and people will sometimes suffer and even die because of their love. That’s a thesis right there!
Guys, I really need help with that one because there’s no chance I can finish this one on time. I’ve been trying my best, but I really can’t figure this one out. The thesis I came up is just off, and all the ideas I have right now are awful, to say the least. Please, guys, help me out!
